FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Balloon Hero or Sidekick the same as Balloon Buoy? Balloon Hero is the next generation of cordless, walk-around pumps designed and built by Ed Rohr. However, with its improved overall design, superior motor and more powerful, longer-working 24-volt battery, Balloon Hero significantly outperforms the beloved Balloon Buoy. The 12-Volt Sidekick gives you performance of the Balloon Buoy but with a better, more-compact motor. With either, you can count on the same level of quality and service as you may be familiar with with the older balloon pumps that entertainers came to love.

Can Balloon Hero or Sidekick be used for anything else? These pumps are designed for use by entertainers who work with twisting balloons. Some people have reported using the tool for removal of dust on keyboards or blowing dirt and debris off of other surfaces and that is one of the uses we find perfectly acceptable. However, Balloon Hero and Sidekick are ABSOLUTELY NOT to be used for tire inflation, basketball inflation, inside body cavities, or as a toy for children. Remember, these pumps are designed for "short burst" inflation of balloons--otherwise the motor will become too hot. Never submerge Balloon Hero or for any reason. Balloon Hero is a professional tool and should be treated with the same level of care and respect you would give to a powertool or high quality camera.

Where can I get extra batteries? For Balloon Hero, the Black And Decker Batteries are the 24-volt variety used in most modern, popular 24-volt FIRESTORM power tools manufactured by Black And Decker.

Batteries can be purchased at DEWALT Service Centers throughout the U.S. or you can also order from us. The Sidekick uses both the standard and FIRESTORM 12-volt batteries from Black and Decker. The standard Black and Decker batteries are available at a number of major home centers and retailers including Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, Walmart and many others. Websites such as eBay frequently offer savings on both the 24- and 12-volt Black & Decker batteries.

Recommended lubrication. Since Spring 2008, we have recommended lubricating Balloon Hero and Sidekick inflators. This is a simple process that requires 2-3 drops of lubricating oil every month, particularly with heavy use. If you own a Balloon Hero or Sidekick sold prior to August 15, 2008, you can get a free bottle of lubricating oil. Simply request one by emailing davidrohr@balloonhero.com. All models shipped after that date have contined lubricating oil. Methods of oiling differ slightly depending on when you purchased  your pump.

Prior to August  15, 2008 (as shown below). Place 2-3 drops of oil in th middle of  the point where the bracket and back of the compressor  meet (indicated by pencil).

After August 15,2008. Oil at the "wick" which is indicated by the red line. Use just  2-3 drops of oil.

Power Lock Cap. All Balloon Hero and Sidekick inflators are shipped with the battery attached and a Power Lock Cap in place. The cap serves the same function as  an "off" switch

Whenever not using your pump, make sure the cap is on. This prevents inadvertant powering which can damage your pump.
